Looking back on how far mobile phones have come in such a short space of time is incredible. It seems that only a few years ago mobile phones came with black and white screens and only had WAP to connect to the internet. Now with the introduction of handsets like the Nokia N96 we now have the opportunity to watch digital TV on the move via the digital TV tuner that is built into this rather special mobile phone. It begs the question, whatever will be next?
The Nokia N96 comes with a massive 16Gb of internal memory. Nokia is obviously pitching this phone to rival that of the iphone, which is set to release a 16GB version later this year. Sadly the Nokia N96 will not come complete with a touch screen interface. This is probably due to Nokia not having created an effective enough interface yet, but in time we are sure that they will create something that can rival that of the iphone.
One feature that stands out on the Nokia N96 is the large screen. At 2.8 inches it is one of the brightest and most illuminating screens of any Nokia mobile phone to date. This is just as well considering the phone will store up to 40 hours of video footage. The big question inevitably is, will the battery life cope with all the multimedia functions? Nokia has typically been let down on battery life in the past, but has been working hard to improve this area of its devices over the past couple of years. It will need to match the battery life of the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 if it is to b in contention for the smart phone leader in the UK.
Overall the Nokia N96 is a phone that will obviously be popular amongst gadget lovers, whether it has done enough to outsell its older brother the Nokia N95 remains to be seen. Nokia normally gets it right though, so let’s wait and see.
